Between 1982 and 1993 members of the Grateful Dead appeared on Late Night With David Letterman and The Late Show with David Letterman on five occasions. On at least two other shows other performers played Grateful Dead songs.

Late Night With David Letterman, show 915, season 6, September 17, 1987

Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir appeared on this show. They performed When I Paint My Masterpiece and sat in with the Late Night Band playing Good Loving, All Along the Watchtower, Walking The Dog, Tore Up Over You and Kansas City during intros. They were also interviewed and shown during a game of scrabble backstage with Garcia and Letterman arguing over the use of the word "truckin". The other main guest on this show was Sugar Ray Leonard.

Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir appeared on this show. They performed I Second That Emotion and played with Late Night band on Another Brick In The Wall, I Can't Turn You Loose, The Mighty Quinn, Hideaway and Good Loving during the commercial breaks. They were interviewed by Letterman and were promoting the release of Built To Last. The main main guest on the programme was Woody Harrelson.
