It is sometimes stated that this is a Muddy Waters song. This is not the case. The original release was a chart success. Chess Records wanted to cash in on this success by releasing a similar record. This was accomplished by Muddy Waters recording more or less an identical song and releasing it with the title Mannish Boy. This was also a chart success. Mannish Boy usually occurs with writing credits shared by Muddy Waters and Bo Diddley.
