Linda Lu
Composer: Ray Sharpe

The Grateful Dead rehearsed Linda Lu in April 1979, shorty before Brent Mydland's first show, but did not perform it live. Jerry Garcia played on a version of the song when sitting in with the Allman Brothers Band on Decmber 31, 1973.

Linda Lu was written and first recorded by Ray Sharpe in the late 1950's. In the early 1960's Sharpe released (The New) Linda Lu which, I believe, is the same backing track as the original Linda Lu with some new, overdubbed vocals. On some recordings by other musicians Linda Lu occurs as Linda Lou.

Note that there are at least two other songs called Linda Lou. One was written by Carl Butler and recorded, among others, by Bill Monroe, the second was written by Roy Rogers and is associated with Hank Snow.
