Composer: Bob Dylan

John Brown was performed three times by the Grateful Dead with Bob Dylan during the Dylan and the Dead tour in July 1987. The Grateful Dead did not perform the song on any other occasion.

First recorded by Bob Dylan in February 1962 for the Broadside magazine. Dylan also recorded a version for the Witmark publishing company in August 1963.
