Forever Young

Composer: Bob Dylan

Performed only once by the Grateful Dead, with Neil Young on vocals and guitar, at the memorial for Bill Graham in Golden Gate Park on November 3, 1991.

Forever Young was played regularly in the 80s and 90s by the Jerry Garcia Band. It was also played by Phil Lesh & Friends, Billy & The Kids and by Bob Weir sitting in with the Midnight Ramble Band.

The song was first recorded by Bob Dylan in June 1973, this version is included on Biograph. Recorded again by Dylan in November 1973 for the Planet Waves album.

Note that there are a number of other songs called Forever Young. One of these, by Rod Stewart, shares the theme and lyric structure of the Bob Dylan song. Because of this similarity it was agreed before the release of the Rod Stewart song, that Dylan would receive a share of the royalties. Dylan sometimes appears in the writing credits for this song.
