Fields Of Athenry
Composer: Pete St John

Fields Of Athenry was performed once by Ratdog in 1995 and once by The Other Ones in 1998. Dennis McNeill was guest vocalist on both occasions.

The song was written by Pete St John at the end of the 1970's and probably first recorded by Danny Doyle for his 1980 Raised On Songs And Stories LP. The single version recorded by Paddy Reilly stayed in the Irish charts for well over a year.

Fields Of Athenry has been adopted by supporters of various Irish sports teams and can often be found on "sporting anthem" compilations as well as Irish ballad compilations.
