Europe 72 reached number 24 in the Billboard album charts.

The 3 LP set contains an eight page booklet containing photographs of the tour, a list of the Europe '72 shows, ads for t-shirts and LPs and Robert Hunter's (Choirmaster) brief piece about hypnocracy, St. Dilbert, Bozos and Bolos.

Parts of the album were overdubbed after the tour.

One commercial single was released in conjunction with Europe '72:

A promotional single was released to promote the Europe '72 album: The same edited version of Sugar Magnolia used on the single noted above was released on another single: An expanded CD release of this album with bonus tracks was included in the box set: The expanded CD release that formed part of the Golden Road box set was released as an individual item in February 2003. This CD release was remastered in HDCD and included extra tracks, an expanded booklet, rare photos, and new liner notes.

A second volume of tracks from the Europe tour was released in 2011: This second volume was released in conjunction with the box set release of all music from the Europe tour: A remastered edition of Europe '72 was released in 2022 to mark the 50th anniversary of the original release. This was available as 2 CDs, 3 LPs and digitally.
