A&M Records

A&M was started in 1962 by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss. They became successful in the mid-1960's with releases by Sergio Mendes, The Sandpipers, Herb Alpert with his Tijuana Brass and others. The label was slow to move into mainstream rock initially licensing UK groups, such as Free and Humble Pie, rather than signing US groups. By the early 1970's though the label had become one of the leading independent companies with releases by the Carpenters, Joe Cocker, Supertramp and many others. This success continued through the 1980's and 1990's with performers such as Sting, Bryan Adams and Janet Jackson. The company was sold to Polygram at the end of the 1980's. A&M is now part of the Universal Music Group.

The first 5 Tubes albums, with Vince Welnick on keyboards, were released on A&M.

The New Riders Of The Purple Sage released one album, Feelin' Alright, on the label.

The first Seatrain album was released on A&M.
