Phil Lesh & Friends / Phil Lesh Quintet / Terrapin Family Band

The Phil Lesh & Friends name was first used in 1994 for an acoustic show by members of the Grateful Dead, Phil Lesh, Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir and Vince Welnick.

The name was used again from 1999 onwards for groups led by Phil Lesh. These groups have often had a shifting cast of musicians. Phil Lesh & Friends performed in most years between 1999 and 2014, some years touring and others playing only a small number of shows. Probably about 100 musicians have played under the Phil & Friends group name during it's existence.

One of the more settled line-ups of the group (Phil Lesh, Warren Haynes, Jimmy Herring, Rob Barraco and John Molo), that performed roughly from 2000 to 2003, became known as the Phil Lesh Quintet. During 2012 a number of shows were played by Phil Lesh with just two friends - these were billed as the Phil Lesh Trio. Since 2014 the Phil Lesh & Friends name has been used less often.

From 2012 onwards the Phil Lesh has often played with the Terrapin Family Band, initially at the Terrapin Crossing venue and then occasionally on small tours. This group has also had a floating cast of musicians. Regular members have been regular members are Grahame Lesh, Brian Lesh, Ross James, Alex Nelson, Scott Padden, Alex Koford, and Emily Sunderland. This group have also played shows without Phil Lesh. In 2015 with Phil Lesh put together Phil Lesh & Communion who played shows during that year.
