Phil Lesh and The Hep Kats

Phil Lesh and The Hep Kats were a one-off group organised to perform at a benefit concert, The Hepcats Ball, for Allen Cohen of the San Francisco Oracle. The concert was held at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco on October 29, 2003.

The Hep Kats were;

  • Phil Lesh - bass
  • Lorin Rowan - guitar, vocals
  • Chris Rowan - guitar, vocals
  • Martin Fierro - saxophone
  • Barry Sless - guitar, pedal steel
  • George Michalski - keyboards
  • Prairie Prince - drums
The benefit was organised and MC'd by Chet Helms. Carlos Reyes opened the show. The Hep Kats followed.

After their set J.C. Juanis presented Phil Lesh and Chet Helms a Proclamation from the California State Legislature noting their efforts in educating people on the hepatitis C crisis. This was followed by inspirational words from Ram Dass and a prerecorded video of Allen Cohen reciting two poems. Don't Push The Clown closed the show.
