Lee Michaels Discography
Originally from Los Angeles, Lee Michaels moved to San Francisco in 1967. He started performing at ballrooms like the Avalon and Fillmore and signed a record deal with A&M toward the end of 1967. His first LP, released in 1968, was a guitar oriented rock release. Subsequently Michaels emphasised his organ playing and R&B roots often recording with just keyboard and drums. This style is best heard on his third LP, Lee Michaels, which was recorded live in the studio in one evening. He is best remembered now for the 'one hit wonder' tag hung on him by the success of the single Do You Know What I Mean, though this song is not representative of his work. He recorded 7 albums for A&M the last being a contract ending live release. He subsequently released two albums for Columbia in 1973 and 1974 and a self released album in 1981.
